Subject: Fluidic Space
Fluidic Space: The Confederation`s first encounter with the realm known as Fluidic Space
came about due to Voyager`s prescence in the Delta Quadrant. At the time, they
stumbled upon a war, one the Borg were losing. They were fighting species 8472,
creatures that were from fluidic space; the only inhabitants it turns out. They accessed out
reality by quantum singularities.
Fluidic space is..unusual. Instead of the normal vacuum, sparsely inhabited by gas
and the occasional speck of a star, the whole continuum is filled with a dense organic
fluid; naturally this creates intense gravitational effects which ships from our dimension
must compensate for. It is hypothesized that this is what gives the bioships from that
reality such a high resistence to normal weapons. The single species that has evolved
there appears to be a direct result of evolution from the organic fluid; tests performed
showed marked similarities in basic molecular structures of some of the complex organic
conductors. Also, it is known that the prime method for detecting ships in fluidic space is
the sensing of compression waves formed by movement.
Recently a method for accessing the fluidic space has been discovered using
gravitational manipulation, tachyon emission and gamma-ray pulses. The following
equations cover the opening of a gateway and shield modifications, as well as distance
conversion.
Fluidic space distance formula: fD= D*5
fD= Fluidic distance
nD= space-normal Distance

Example: nD= fD*5
nD= fD * 5
nd= 30 * 5
nD=150
Warp drive acts the same, but different. It accesses a different form of subspace, one
connected with Fluidic space; its different properties give rise to the increased speed
factor. One more thing: the organic fluid matter dosent interact with the ship like in regular
subspace, again due to the different operating rules of this continuums subspace.
Formular for opening a jump gate
J= (I * (c^2 * e^3)) * R
I= Local gravitational constant
c= speed of light of the emitted gamma ray burst
e= volume of the ship
R= energy pumped into the opening
*Warning* The entrance to F-space will not be a smooth ride, so yellow alert is
recommended for all trials. Once inside, however, its a smooth trip. Exiting is the same
as entering.
Shield Modification
E= subK - 25^2(shield strength + length)
subK= around 350, depending on local subspace and space-normal drag functions.
The shield modifications basically cause the kinetic energy of all that organic fluid hitting
them at once to instead wash over them like water over a eggshell. Normal shield energy
rules apply now. They dont act so much like deflectors, which push aside matter and
would take too much energy, as redistributors, allowing the matter to flow over them
without interacting.
Subspace sensors are unaffects; EM sensors are degreaded severely except for certain
wavelengths of visual light and heat. And ship that explodes in f-space will cause a greater
boom, since the organic fluid will carry the compression wave caused out over 500,000
kilometers(figures based on yer averaged-sized intrepid class starship). Energy weapons
have a 22% lesser range than normal; this is believed to apply to 8472 ships also.
Torpedos can travel normally; in fact, they can be programmed to generate compression
waves and 'surf' them, increasing range.
Note: To calculate compression waves, use good old
fashioned density calculations:
1) Density = Mass/Volume (D= M/V)
2) Volume = Mass/Density (V= M/D)
3) Mass = Density x Volume (M = D x V)
Fluidic space`s density has been measured at 2.3g/cm^3; its a little heavier than corn
syrup.
The material making up the fluid continuum allows heat to be dissipated at a meager 25
Watts\m^3, so watch overheating. Electrical conductivity is very poor, leading many to
wonder how the superconductive fluid used in 8472 bioships managed to evolve. Also, due
to the space-matter configuration, any gateway leading from F-space will not open unless
the normal-space end is clear of all large scale matter(rocks, asteroids, stars..that sort of
thing).
Navigation is handled using the computer to calculate where you`ll be based on fluidic
space speeds compared to normal location, accounting for directional changes and such;
computer-based dead reckoning in essence, but its quite effective..except in unknown
territory. Then basically you have to use modified subspace sensors to jump between two
subspace domains and scan for location.
This is the only currently available information. More access to this space will provide
more data, which will be released as it becomes available.
